Digoty pere 1775) wurde eigens für diese Ausgabe hergestellt. - Edition originale. - Jacques-Fabien Gautier-Dagoty (1716-1785) fut l'eleve de l'artiste allemand Jacob Christoph Le Blon (1667-1741), inventeur de l'impression en couleurs par reperage. Il perfectionna le procede de son maitre par l'utilisation d'une quatrieme planche en noir. - Antoine Court de Gebelin (1725-1784). The book was attractively produced with engraved primitive alphabets and a charming frontispiece by Marillier, but what made the book a must for buyers was the beautiful colour-printed plate, showing tongue, larynx and organs of speech by Jacques Fabien Gautier Dagoty: "connu par son habilite en ce genre", as stated by the publishers in a special "advertisement". It is among the last plates Dagoty did, very powerful, the artist still being at the top of his abilities. It was printed from separate mezzotint plates, one for each primary colour and one for black. Format of the print 19,5 x 15 cm., with ample margins.
