Roughing it (resounding). From the engl. by Henny Bock-Neumann. Orig. typoscript, Stgt. 1911/12. 4°. With a portrait of the author and 65 (partially colored) mounted images, mostly as original photographs. 3 Bl., 338 pp.
Probably never published typoscript of the memoirs of Ludwig Wolf (1834-after 1912). The German emigrant from West Prussia created a "biographical sketch" in which I lay down my experience gained over the course of 38 years. Well-known American writer John L. Stoddart has strongly advised me to write them down... If there is anyone among the readers who lived on the Pacific coast in Oregon, California, some 60 years ago, he will certainly remember the life and activity I have described. After Wolf first transferred to New York at the age of 17, he worked with his brothers in Portland, where he learned English and Chinook. Later he came to San Francisco and many other places on the West Coast, where he earned his money as a merchant for gold rush weddings. In addition to some time in the USA, where he was probably also active in mining, Wolf was also settled for some time in Japan, India and Egypt (Wolf in the foreword). I call this book Roughing it in memory of my late friend Sam Clements (Mark Twain), with whom I spent several years in Virginia City, Nevada. He (Mark Twain) was about five years younger than me, and went out in strange clothes, usually wearing a short cape... He looked as if he could not count to three, but if he then let his dry jokes run wild, one could have rolled with laughter. - Isolated touches and corrections. Photographs partly with slight lesions or kinks.

Roughing it (Sich durchschlagend). Autor. Uebers. aus dem Engl. von Henny Bock-Neumann. Orig.-Typoskript, Stgt. 1911/12. 4°.
(S. 110). - Vereinzelte Anstreichungen und Korrekturen. Photographien teils mit leichten Läsuren oder Knicken.
